This is the season of Promotions, transfers and thus accepting new challenges. There are only few who gets choicest postings i.e. in their home town or state or even the same locations. You may feel a bit jealous and that management has done gross injustice to you. Friends in my career of 40+ yrs as a banker and as a BM for 25 yrs in Scale I to VI, if I look back I can say with challenge that I was most successful and happy in those Scale I to VI branches/places where I felt dejected. You may be in the same mind set. Hence first remove that feeling and treat such postings as an opportunity of your life.
There are several reasons, few I am quoting.
1) As a ZM/RM/FGM have an obvious thinking that since the person has been given the choicest postings they should be the best performers, yielding very quick results. As such they are targeted being the sitting ducks.
2) It is felt that they have knowledge of the people, geography, business and have a magic wand.
3) Generally these few do not get much breathing space and support and always under scanner.
4) But remember the wonderful staff/managers like you who have a feeling of deprivation within are definitely supported by management as inside their heart they are are aware about the difficult situations you are placed.
5) Your normal growth/change of even 4-5% during first 2/3 quarters is going to score over even 10% growth shown by favoured.
*** Follow the enumerated steps to be successful.(This is true for one and all).***
Pre Joining :- Once it is known that you are posted to a specific place, try to get information about the staff working there, type of business, performance of branch and key persons ie resourceful staff even about good depositors, persons, good and NPA borrowers in but shell.
DO NOT MAKE ANY PREJUDGED Opinion about these people/staff/customers based on somebody's information.
1) On joining meet all the staff personally by going to their seats. Exchange with them with some good words and acknowledge if some one is known to you.
2)Mark who is the person with resources. This is the first step in team building.
3) Speak with the 2nd man, may be Officer or Head Cashier, telling him in specific words that you have heard good things about him.
4) It is always good if you can meet your First 2/3 Best depositors, Borrowers and persons of repute. If not make a phone call and welcome them informing that you value their business.
5) Send your reporting letter to RO/ZO.
6) As far as possible have a Staff meeting and open up your heart and tell them that "WE" will work in a team and seek their full cooperation.
7) Inform as many things as you can about you, your family and your native place. Tell them about good staff/BM/RM you have worked with.
8) Request each staff to tell about their family background their educational background. Note this along with their names. Seek information if any body has performed in bank or even their kith and kin has done some exemplary social work. This information will be crucial to you for your performance.
9) Check cash, few documents and how the things are maintained; have a glance at the last Audit Report. You will scan it afterwards.
10) Next crucial aspect will be preparing the basic Area Profile.

Let us meet tomorrow on the Business Aspects.
